Marilyn Watkins

Marilyn Watkins is Policy Director at the Economic Opportunity Institute, a Seattle-based nonprofit policy center that focuses on changing public policies to create an economy that works for everyone. She led the successful 2017 campaign for paid family and medical leave in Washington state and earlier city and state campaigns for paid sick days. Her research and advocacy also focus on gender and income inequality and state revenue. She serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor in Health Services at the University of Washington and on the executive committee of Family Values @ Work. Before joining EOI in 1999, she worked as a historical consultant and taught Pacific Northwest and American women's history. She earned a B.A. at Harvard and Ph.D. in history at the University of Michigan.
