Latona Giwa

Latona Giwa is an IBCLC Lactation Consultant, Registered Nurse, and Birth
Doula. Latona has cared and advocated for pregnant, birthing, and
parenting families throughout her career. She has worked as a labor and
delivery nurse, maternal-child health nurse-home visitor, in-home lactation
consultant, birth doula, and childbirth and parenting educator. Latona co-
founded New Orleans’ Birthmark Doula Collective in 2011, because she is
passionate about making evidence-based care accessible to New Orleans’
pregnant and parenting families. She also co-created New Orleans' Queer
Pregnancy and Parenting Project, the #BlackBirthMatters biannual
convening, and Cafe au Lait: Breastfeeding Support Group for Women of
Color. She is excited to be currently opening Louisiana's first infant feeding
clinic- the New Orleans Breastfeeding Center, to bring her community
another important tool needed to transform our poor maternal-child health
outcomes. Latona is also a mother, and she knows that parents have the
power to change the world. She is honored to support Louisiana families on
their parenting journeys.
